Shoe Repair
Impressive craftsmanship that makes you say "Wow!"
Why are we the best place to repair your shoes?
Some of the best workers in the industry are part of the Hem Over Heels team of qualified shoemakers. You can bring in your most challenging projects without hesitation.
Once again, our reputation was built on strong skills and years of experience fixing the most common shoe problems. From the most simple repair, all the way to the most difficult and intricate jobs, we do everything right.
But above everything else, our specialists are honest when assessing your accessories. They will analyze, check and pull on all parts of your shoes to make sure they are worth fixing. They will not accept to do mediocre work even if you beg them to compromise here or there to save money. It is going to be done the right way or no way.
We understand that most shoes sold today are not worth repairing. Many times, shoes are not fixable because they are poorly made with bad quality material.
We regularly hear people tell us that it would be cheaper for them to buy a new pair of shoes. The price of the repair is equal or superior to the value of the shoes. We are aware of that.
Over the years, the shoe manufacturing industry has changed tremendously. Many companies design their shoes with a planned obsolescence. They create products that will deteriorate quickly after a certain period of time. That is even more evident when you stop wearing them for a few months. The “MMM” (man made material) crystallizes and breaks apart as soon as you start wearing them again. The material looses its flexibility and the crystals break apart. The result is not only frustrating but it is also very dangerous. If chunks of soles deteriorate under you as you walk, you run the risk of tripping on it, twist an ankle or endure some serious injuries.
Therefore, it is very important to choose wisely when purchasing new shoes. Be picky… Be very picky! Stay away from “MMM” shoes as much as possible (although, this may be utopia to even think about it these days). If you have two choices, always go for the real leather shoes rather than its “MMM” counterpart.
Where is all the work done?
Everything you bring us will be done on the premises. Our shoppe is fully equipped with all the machinery and essential supplies necessary to do the work. We never send any work outside.
Actually, Hem Over Heels could be considered as a central command. Some other businesses are bringing us their work to be done by our experts. We are the main provider to many dry cleaners’ shoe repair needs.
All the custom work we do is also done here in the store. When customers want to have a custom made belt or when we refinish leather handbags, it is always done by our experts and in the place where you dropped it off.
Your items never leave our store. So you don’t need to worry about us ever loosing anything you bring us. We are trusted with extremely expensive items all the time. We know that we need to handle those items with extra care. And that is why people bring their thing here. They know that our work is top notch and that we never outsource anything to nobody else.
What sets us apart from all other?
The first distinction is the craftsmanship. You will be hard pressed to find a place that can equal our expertise. There are many people working in the shoe repair field. But not all are able to do the type of work we do. The same applies to any special skills. Some are good, some are great, some are very poorly skilled and then you have the masters. Everybody will likely be able to survive and even make a career out of what they do. But that doesn’t mean that they are good at it. Unfortunately, many pretenders spoiled it for all the others. Their poor quality work contributed to give an overall bad reputation to the shoe repair industry. That had the effect of chasing customers away. The reflex to buy new rather than fixing old items also became the norm in this mass consumption society.
With business diminishing quickly, only the better shoemakers survived the trend. But there are still plenty of pretenders out there. So when you are not satisfied with the service you got in one business, please don’t give up! Go knock at another door. Beware of the shopkeeper who will compromise on the repair method to match your budget. There are lots of unscrupulous people out there that have only one objective in mind when you walk into their store and that is: To take your money and run with it. They don’t really care about that repair being done right or not. They are not counting on you to come back anyway…
At Hem Over Heels, we built our reputation on honesty and care for a job well done. You can take a look at some examples we have done. We have the knowledge and expertise to produce the desired results. For this we are constantly rewarded by multiple referrals emanating from the high end boutiques and large surface stores selling the very expensive shoes and handbags. They know that they should not send their customers to whomever is out there. They will only recommend the stores that comes with the best reputation for excellence. That is why they send their customers to us.
How long does it take to repair shoes?
Like everything we do in the store, most orders are completed within one week. On the rare occasions where parts need to be special ordered of is very intricate work, we may ask for a little extra long turn around time.
The time of the year you come will also have an impact on our ability to do things faster or slower. Some jobs are quicker than others to do.
Don’t hesitate to ask if you are in a hurry. If we can, we will do it fast for you. That being said, bring your shoes in for us to see the repair needed. We can never promise anything over the phone without seeing it first.

This "Limited Edition LV Handbag" came to us in real bad shape. The lining was not salvageable but the outside needed some minor cleaning. We brought it back by putting in a new lining exactly like the original. It basically looked like a new handbag.
Before After
Old lining out
We carefully remove the old lining making sure to leave it intact. This is an important step in order to create the pattern for the new lining.
Preserve all parts
Take the inside pocket zipper along with its leather end bindings if any of it is salvageable to transfer the old leather label to the new fabric.
Make a pattern
Make sure you note where the pockets go in relation to the outside of the handbag. The template helps to duplicate the original lining.
Zippered pocket
Stitch everything back in place and connect the new ling to the inside's top binding making sure to follow the same stitch holes.
Inside sleeves
Recreate the pockets the same way. When stitching to the rest of the lining, make sure everything is straight.
Reassembling
Restitch the new lining to the handbag's outer shell. Make sure to realign everything properly and follow the same stitch holes.
